Asuu now wants to seek the face of God by prayer and fasting

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, after holding a congress at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan, has made a decision to embark on three days of fasting and prayers. This, according to the Chairman of UI chapter of ASUU Dr. Olusegun Ajiboye, would help in finding answers to the struggle between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Union.
The congress stressed the need for “divine intervention” in the long-drawn crisis to help Nigerian leaders to do the needful and document the resolutions of their meeting with the President.
Participants of the congress expressed their hopes that the strike will end soon.
They also listed three prayer points:
that God touches the heart of the FG to be committed towards funding public education and develop the nation;
that God protects the leadership of ASUU as they travel;
that the purpose of the strike is actualized by placing universities in the league of world class institutions.
Speaking after the congress, Dr. Ajiboye said the Union does not need media confirmation from the President that N200billion has been deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria. He said it was impossible for anybody who has not opened an account with a bank to request the bank for a balance.
While urging FG to be serious about the future of the country, the chairman accused them of “still keeping the students at home.”
He maintained that the Union has the machinery to suspend the strike within 24 hours once the grey areas in the resolutions have been sorted out by the FG.
